How long have you been teaching at RCHK, and what do you teach?

I’m new to RCHK, having joined full-time in August. I currently teach both Design and Visual Arts. Some students may remember me being here for a little while last year in both departments too!

Can you tell us about your life before coming to RCHK?

Like most RCHK students, I have grown up in Hong Kong too! I’m an ESF alumnus (studied at KGV) and spent five years living in London post-secondary before returning here and working in the advertising industry.

What is the best and worst thing about being a teacher?
The best thing about teaching is getting to know the students and having a laugh with them. Also, seeing the amazing ideas that students come up with in lessons, most are things I would never have thought of! The worst thing is waking up so early in the morning to get to school…

Did you have any other possible career choices before deciding on teaching?
I worked in advertising for several years before becoming a teacher, as it was a natural progression from what I studied at university. Ultimately, I found that I was seeking a more rewarding career and decided to do my teacher training in Visual Arts and Design. No regrets!

What is your most memorable memory at RCHK so far?
Everything involving being active and going outside has been so much fun. In particular, the Swimming Gala was a great day. I also really enjoyed joining the Year 9’s on Emb@RC week and racing some of them up the climbing wall.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Absolutely no clue where in the world I’ll be (definitely somewhere warm)! I hope that I will still be doing something creative.

What is a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?

I am dog obsessed. I have two rescue dogs (Otto & Billie) who I treat like children. They are my absolute pride and joy.

What would you most like to tell yourself at your students' age?

So many things… Try not to worry about what others think of you (easier said than done), try your best not to compare yourself to others, being a kind person is way better than being a “cool” person, stand up for yourself!!

A message or advice to students?

If you enjoy something, stick to it!!! And it’s important to be kind and polite whenever possible.
