While everyone looks forward to the break between school years, summer can start to feel repetitive as the years go by. However, spending your summer in Hong Kong can be a blast if you know where to go and what to do. Whether you’re a Year 11 student searching for internships and summer programs or a Year 7 student looking for fun theme parks to celebrate a birthday, we’ve got you covered with a list of exciting activities and opportunities.

Dive into Summer Activities and Camps

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department, along with various youth organizations, offers a wide range of summer activities. Whether you want to soak up the sun while swimming or try something new–such as dance, yoga, badminton, table tennis, squash, or horticulture, there’s something for everyone.

If you’re looking for even more options, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups provides over 10,000 summer programmes covering personal growth, social services, outdoor adventures, digital and media skills, music, arts, sports, cooking, and wellness. No matter your interest, they likely have a program for you.

If you are more creative, consider more specialised camps like the Babel Film Workshop, which teaches filmmaking, voice acting, photography, AI creation, and vlogging to ages 8 to 18. Canadian International School also provides summer programs for creative writing

As part of the ESF community, RCHK students can take advantage of ESF Explore’s full-day camps that combine language learning with multi-sports for children aged 5 to 18. Themes include Planet Guardian Adventures, Primary Science (STEM), and Spanish through art and culture.

Theme Parks and Festivals to Celebrate Summer

If summer school or camps aren’t your thing, Hong Kong’s world class theme parks and festivals are perfect for relaxing and having pure fun. Disneyland Resort is celebrating its 20th anniversary starting June 28, 2025—just one day after the last day of school—with a new castle stage show, the largest-ever parade, and a spectacular nighttime show featuring drones and projections. Don’t miss the special merchandise and exclusive events!

Ocean Park’s Summer Splash runs from July 5 to August 24, featuring celebrations for the panda twins’ first birthday, special ticket packages, and summer goodie bags.

For something different, check out SummerFest@Central from May 30 to August 3. This free, family-friendly festival offers art, culture, music, and sports events, including bamboo art workshops, bike championships, and water-themed weekends—perfect for a day out with family or friends.

Explore Hong Kong’s Outdoors and Islands

For those who love nature, escaping the city to Hong Kong’s outdoor and island activities are a summer highlight,visiting Lamma Island, Sai Kung, or Cheung Chau for beach days, island hopping, or hiking. Water-based activities like kayaking or junk boat rides are also popular in Sai Kung—perfect for a group outing or a relaxing evening.

Internships, Volunteering, and Shadowing for Older Students

Crossroads Foundation offers 10-week full-time summer internships (Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am–5 pm) Interns receive certificates, reference letters, and gain valuable workplace and language skills.
