Are you a regular reader of The RCHK Truth? Have you ever wondered who writes for it? Whether YOU could be one of the journalists?  Before you close this tab, get to know us and our purpose better.

It all starts with our weekly meeting, where all the journalists come to give ideas on what to write. The next edition’s date and plan is set up. Having done the formalities, we write our articles, sometimes putting in quotes, anecdotes and other literary devices. Afterwards, we give our pieces to editors, who will give feedback, to make sure the writing is professional and newsworthy. Articles cover a variety of topics, such as opinion, general news and culture and arts. Our aim at The RCHK Truth, as one of our journalists puts it, is to deliver a “filtered, credible source” of news and information specifically for the RCHK community. Or, as teacher and editor Ms Jennifer Adams explains, “The RCHK Truth shines a light on events going on around the school and also allows students to express their opinions on a variety of issues. Anyone can contribute and it is a great way to give students an authentic voice in the school community.”

What if you do not want to write? You can follow the example of Markandeya Karthik by making videos such as his “Headlines” series for our website. Whether your skills are in photography, illustration, animation or audio recording, or your interests are in sports, environment, culture, politics or music, The RCHK Truth is always open to new ideas and enthusiasms.

Very few schools have a student-run newspaper and RCHK may be unique in having an editorial board drawn from the whole school. The teachers in charge, Mr. Brasher, the Head of English, Ms. Adams and Mr. Knight, are always willing to help and listen to ideas. We are all part of an ever growing community, and the warm and welcoming atmosphere is full of laughter, commitment and excitement. The moment you join, you will also feel a sense of friendship that is abundant in our meetings.

As one of our journalists says, "It’s an outlet for students to experience being a journalist and reporting on events, or to express their own opinions, for others to read and appreciate.”

Are you convinced? Why don’t you join? Then you can be a proud member of the RCHK Truth newspaper team!

If you are interested in joining as a regular team member of The RCHK Truth or you are simply wondering about contributing an article or two, email the editors on thetruth@rchk.edu.hk and we will be in contact. Check out our submission guidelines for further insights.
