The Burning Wand

By Ramsie Chan

There was once a magical mountain with a powerful wizard who lived on the very top. No one ever reached him, not even the mighty gods. This was mostly because a supernatural force protected the mountain. But also partly because the mountain was so high, mortals could not climb to the top without dying.

Legend states that if you reach the top of the mountain, there is a wand, burning with a raging fire, sitting on top. If you touch the wand, you become immortal. Thousands and thousands of people had tried to climb the mountain. Unfortunately, they failed.

In a poor city, there lived a girl called Casey. Her family was the richest in the city. She lived a joyful wealthy life, but she was not happy. A feeling bothered her. She was terrified of death. Her family wanted her to be happy, so the family made up rumors that if she ate white chocolate, she would never die. So, they gave the girl white chocolate. Casey was overjoyed. She jumped around, holding the chocolate in her hand. But then, she accidentally dropped it. She sobbed for 5 nights! Her parents tried to create more rumors, but it didn’t work.

When Casey’s parents realized that they could send someone to get the burning wand for Casey, they did it immediately. They hired a high-rank soldier and sent him. The next day, the soldier was found dead at the foot of the mountain. Turns out, the magical force had killed him. Casey’s parents were devastated. They have to hire somebody else now.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, there lived a poor boy named Everett. His family was extremely strict, mean, and rude. But he was quite special. He never got hurt, even when he was in dangerous situations. Once, he fell off the roof but landed on a sofa because his parents wanted to move the sofa out as it took up too much space.

When Everett heard that Casey’s family needed someone, he sprinted to Casey’s family’s house to get the job.

After he got the job, he set off for the adventure with a telescope, a banana, a shovel, and an umbrella.

“Shouldn’t you bring more than that?” Casey’s Mom asked.

“Nah, I’m good,” Everett answered coolly. So Everett set off for the wand.

First, he used his shovel to dig into the soil and defeated the force. Then, came a huge gorilla. Everett bribed the gorilla with the banana meat and kept the banana peel. He walked along to see a huge lion chasing him from behind. He quickly threw the banana peel behind him as the lion tripped on the peel.

Next, he jumped upwards and opened his umbrella. It made him float forward, moving with the wind. This way, he didn’t have to walk anymore.

Soon, the burning wand was near. So he took his telescope and found which direction the burning wand was. He walked towards the burning wand and grabbed it. Instead of the wand feeling hot, it was a cool material in his hands.

Suddenly, he felt something on his back. He twisted his head to look at his back. There was a robot climbing onto his back. He expanded his telescope and hit the robot in the head. Then, he took his umbrella and jumped off, opening the umbrella once again. He slowly floated back down, landing safely on the ground.

Everett hurried back to Casey’s family’s house.

“I got the burning wand!” Everett smiled.

“Thank you! Thank you!” Casey’s mother said. Casey looked at the burning wand with her greedy eyes. She quickly snatched it out of Everett’s hands. But something strange happened. Instead of the cool touch, Everett received holding the burning wand, the burning wand started to burn Casey’s hands.

“Help! The wand is burning me!” Casey shouted as she quickly dropped the wand.

The moment Casey dropped the wand, her burned wounds disappeared.

“Looks like the burning wand doesn’t like you,” Everett said.

\

“Rude!” Casey shouted,” But what shall I do now?”

Everett picked up the wand from the floor, ignoring Casey.

“I’ll keep this since you don’t need it,” Everett grinned.

That night, Everett had a strange dream of himself holding the burning wand, when suddenly, the wand started the glow. In his dream, he became a god. The wizard was so proud of him.

The next morning, Everett found himself lying on a cloud.

“Welcome, new god,” a mysterious voice said.
